Statute amendment immediately after announcement of election date: Speaker Gharti

speaker-Onsari-Gharti-Magar-18022017093435-1000x0-19022017065411-1000x0Feb 19, 2017- House Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar has said the process for endorsing constitution amendment bill registered at the Legislature-Parliament to address the grievances of Madhes-based parties will expedite soon after the announcement of the election dates.

Speaking with the Post in New Delhi, India on Sunday, Speaker Gharti said it was crucial to conduct local election at the earliest in order to implement the constitution. Furthermore, she informed that the constitution will be amended after garnering political consensus, or else House will resort to the due process.

According to the Speaker, if the government announces local poll dates on Monday, the process for amending constitution will start from Tuesday.

Speaker Gharti is expected to return home this evening as the government is preparing to announce the polls dates. It is learnt she has cut short her India stay as per the request of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leaders of various political parties.
