Srikot’s women launch a crusade against gambling and liquor sale

Baitadi, August 1: The women folks here at a village in Baitadi have launched a liquor control campaign with the latest rise in the violence against women and children.

The consumption of liquor along with compulsive gambling has stocked a rise in the incidents of violence against women here in this village. The women from Srikot area of Dogdakedar – 3 have taken an issue on this by directing an all – out effort to ban the sale of liquor products.

The women have formed a struggle committee to fight the growing social menace. Under the leadership of Laxmi Oda, the Women Awareness Group was formed which took out a rally from Dang, Khochlek, Sallegada to Ghodedhar locality. They shouted slogans pressing for an end to gambling and sale of liquor.More than 200 women took part in the rally which also picketed the ward office at Srikot, Group’s Chairperson Laxmi Oda shared.

She said the group will submit a memorandum with the demands to shutdown gambling and ban sale of liquor products today.

The women from Srikot have issued a stringent warning citing their readiness to launch any form of agitation to have their demands addressed. RSS
