Kathmandu, March 22: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a verdict to pick Inspector General of Police (IGP) from among the existing DIGs on the basis of eligibility and appraisal of four-year past performance.
The certiorari order of the apex court scrapped the government’s decision to promote DIG Jaya Banadur Chand to IGP and issued mandamus order in the name of government to pick one among the highest scorer DIGS on basis of performance appraisal.
A full bench comprising Chief Justice Sushila Karki, justices, Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Iswor Prasad Khatiwada, Anil Kumar Bhattarai and Hari Krishna Karki issued the order.
“DIG Nawraj Silwal seems to be on top of score while taking into consideration the seniority and performance appraisal on the basis of police regulation”, states the verdict.
Eaqrlier, the SC had issued an interim order to the government to stay the promotion of Chand to IGP. RSS
